Dubai, UAE – Dubai-based Keepeat App has launched their innovative new platform aimed at preventing food waste. Created in a bid to help alleviate the growing environmental problem, the app’s first partner will be Trader’s House eatery located in the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

The trend-setting Keepeat App is a cooperative startup between Emirati and Swedish entrepreneurs that are committed to making a positive contribution to the UAE government and environment by preventing good food from being wasted. The company’s vision is in line with the Dubai strategy of 2020 and His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Emirates Food Bank Initiative launched in 2017.

Keepeat adheres to all health authority regulations, while allowing consumers to save on their meals. Only food good enough to be sold will be available and any food that has passed the allowed hours will never be offered for sale. Consumers can browse and buy discounted food of a minimum of 50% off with the Keepeat App, then arrive at the outlet during the specified time, show their receipt, and pick up their food. The Keepeat App is available in the Apple Store and Google Play.

“Keepeat is a platform to enable retailers to minimize food waste, while consumers can save the food instead of letting it go to waste” said Ena Basic, CEO of Keepeat. “The value of wasted food in the UAE amounts to around AED13bn ($3.5bn) each year, while the cost of discarding food in Dubai alone totals AED282m.” [1]

The Dubai World Trade Centre is the region’s leading destination for exhibitions, conferences and events, offering multiple dining opportunities for its visitors. As one of Keepeat’s first partners to join the initiative, DWTC is committed to tackling the problem of food wastage and reducing its environmental footprint.

“We are excited to partner with Keepeat in rolling out Trader’s House as our first outlet here at DWTC,” said Andrew Cullen, Director at DWTC. “As a keen supporter of this cause, we are determined to continue our journey through this partnership, and set a positive example in addressing the issue of surplus food in the UAE.”

Every sophisticated society must eventually confront the problem of excess food and its impact on the environment. Each day, the average person produces roughly 2.7 kilograms of trash including food waste.[2] Keepeat helps to significantly reduce the amount of surfeit food by making it available to consumers at reduced cost, while supporting commerce for eateries and thus mitigates the greenhouse emissions arising from food wastage. Companies and consumers can connect with Keepeat on Facebook and Instagram.
