Dubai Duty Free marked its 35th anniversary as it welcomed passengers travelling through Dubai with a 25 per cent discount on a wide range of merchandise over three days, which began at midnight on December 18 and continued until the operation's anniversary day on December 20. Total sales for the three days reached Dh191 million.

The anniversary discount for 72 hours resulted in a spending spree at Dubai International and Al Maktoum International, with sales on December 18 reaching Dh42.89 million and Dh41.25 million on December 19. On the anniversary day, Dubai Duty Free daily sales reached Dh106.80 million in the 24-hour period.

From a category point of view, cosmetics was the highest selling category with sales of Dh46 million followed by watches with sales of Dh35.48 million and perfumes with sales of Dh34.23 million.

Colm McLoughlin, executive vice-chairman and CEO of Dubai Duty Free, said the anniversary celebrations received positive results across all concourses.

"I would like to thank everyone, in particular thanks to our customers and staff who did a great job in serving the high number of passengers."

During the three-day sales, Dubai Duty Free's distribution centre issued 2,501 pallets of merchandise and conducted 228 trips from the warehouse to the airport.
