Seminar is organised in partnership with French Business Council and Farnek

Dubai, UAE:The Dubai Chamber Sustainability Network in partnership with the French Business Council and Farnek, organised a seminar entitled 'Food Waste Management - Innovative Practices' attended by representatives of private companies operating in UAE at the Chamber premises on Sunday.

The seminar came as part of the French Business Council's initiative to look at the issue of food waste and how it is being applied by different businesses. Partnering on this event is in line with the Dubai Chamber Sustainability Network's strategy to actively work with its members to encourage and implement sustainable business practices.

With its aim of bringing together businesses and different stakeholders like municipality, suppliers (caterers), hotels, food companies and food banking to discuss the critical issue of Food Waste Management in the UAE, the seminar dealt with best practices and challenges in the area while highlighting some current waste reduction regulations and also practices in operation from industries directly involved in the consumption of food.

Dr. Belaid Rettab, Senior Director, Economic Research and Sustainable Business Development Sector, Dubai Chamber, said thatwaste management contributes greatly in enhancinga company's productivity through resource conservation activities as this also boostsits reputation among its customers.

He further stressed thatthis seminar will help companies implement responsible and sustainable practices in waste management, while providing practical and realistic models of practices which are globally certified, and are being implemented by other companies in their place of work or in the community, adding that the Sustainability Network is an essential component of Dubai Chamber's efforts in promoting a culture of responsible business practices and its implementation as part of a company'sstrategy.

Speaking about the seminar, Agnes Lopez-Cruz, Executive Director, French Business Council, said:"France is well-known for its gastronomy and our country is therefore playing a substantive role in addressing the food crisis around the world. As many chefs, F&B managers and industry stakeholders based in the UAE are French, it was an evidence for our F&B and Sustainability committees to join forces in order to tackle this burning subject in partnership with Dubai Chamber Sustainability Network and Farnek. We hope that this kind of event will help raising the awareness to reduce food waste from farm to fork as well as to promote innovative practices within the value chain locally."

The speakers at the seminar included Farnek, Dubai Municipality, Trakhees EHS, Sodexo Kelvin, Pullman Deira City Center,Alserkal Envirol, Gloria Hotel and Gloria Yassat Hotel Dubai, Food Banking Regional Network, Madinat Jumeirah Resort and Conference Centre and Barakat Quality Plus.

Since its formation in 2010 by the Dubai Chamber's Centre for Responsible Business, the Sustainability Network members have been at the forefront of promoting best practices and building competitive advantages and business reputation while raising the bar higher for responsible business practices in the emirate.
