• 'Together we can beat the heat' safety campaign was launched on Thursday, July 23, 2015

• This campaign aims to minimise heat stress related injuries and promote safety awareness amongst the employees

Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C (Alba), one of the world's leading aluminium smelters, underlined its long-standing commitment to employees' safety with the launch of its new campaign titled "Together we can beat the heat"on Thursday, July 23, 2015.
 
The campaign's opening ceremony was attended by Alba's CEO - Tim Murray, other Executive Management and Chairman of Alba Labour Union- Ali Al Binali along with other representatives of Alba Labour Union.

An initiative by Alba's Management, this campaign aims to improve safety awareness amongstthe employees andminimise heat stress related injuries byfocusing on four main steps: know the symptoms, drink water regularly, use the cooling cloth and take frequent breaks.

This campaign will include severalvisits in the coming few weeks by members of Alba's Management to operational areas to urge employees to watch over their colleagues during the hot summer months.

Commenting on the new safety campaign, Alba's Chief Executive Officer, Tim Murray, said:
"The summer months are a very difficult period and it is our top priority to ensure our workers' safety. Through our continued campaigns, we are encouraging the ownership of safety and asking all employees and contractors to raise safety awareness".

With the beginning of Summer 2015, Albahad launched many initiatives targeted at improvingsafety culture across the plant, including summer safety awareness sessions in all operational areas, heat stress sessions during the SHE Campaign "Safety Jungle", a full day dedicated to Ramadan Safety during the SHE week, as well as after-Iftar safety visits conducted by the Executive Management in the plant with shop-floor employees.

About Line 6 Expansion Project
Line 6 Expansion Project, expected to begin production by early 2019, will boost the per-annum production by 514,000 metric tonnes, bringing the total production capacity of Alba to around 1.450 million metric tonnes per year.

Bechtel Canada completed the Bankable Feasibility study for the $3.5 billion Line 6 Expansion Project in December 2014. DX+ Technology is selected as the base for Line 6, while J.P. Morgan, Gulf International Bank (GIB) and National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) are the Financial Advisors of the Project.

The Line 6 Expansion Project will enhance the downstream industry by creating many co-investment opportunities through local and foreign aluminium investments. It will create hundreds of jobs, directly and indirectly, which will be a significant economic boost for the Kingdom of Bahrain.
