Undertaking will mark the first Birthday of Sheikha Lateefa bint Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan

Dubai - Under the wise directives of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Women Establishment, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, UAE - and on the occasion of the first birthday of her daughter - Sheikha Lateefa bint Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Al Manal Initiative today announced its pledge to repay the debts of 10 prisoners, present in different prisons across state, totalling 1.95 million Dirhams, allowing for their release after the completion of all formalities. The decision reflects the ongoing objectives of Al Manal Initiative to establish a culture of social responsibility by example.

This charitable tribute, reaffirms Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's steadfast belief that joyous occasions also serve as an auspicious opportunity to deliver support and assistance to others, and set a precedent for the community to follow through with their own individual gestures of humanity and solidarity.

The process of relaying the funding to the concerned authorities is coordinated by Al Manal Initiative, with the cooperation of the Ministry of Interiors, which will entail coordination with creditors to close their files and release, and secure their return to their families as soon as possible.

Among the beneficiaries are three offenders, who were held due their failure to pay the blood money incurred as a result of traffic accidents.

On the occasion, Colonel Abdul Hakim Saeed Al Suwaidi, treasurer of the Al Faraj Fund said, "This generous donation will have a positive impact on the lives of beneficiaries and their families, who have suffered grievously as a result of the absence of the main breadwinner for household."

He noted, "It worth noting that the benevolence of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is not an isolated occurrence, we are delighted to welcome her support for those in need on several occasions. Such initiatives enhance the status and role of the UAE community and its contribution in humanitarian and community initiatives on a local, regional and global level; further reflecting the strong sense of unity and affinity that exists among all segments of our societies."

Al Suwaidi stressed that the committee from Faraj Fund will promptly begin the process of studying the cases of prisoners as beneficiaries, with the intention to begin closing files to secure their swift release.

For his part, Sami Al Reyami, Editor-in-Chief of Emarat Al Youm appreciated the efforts of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in recording a strong presence in the humanitarian record of the newspaper.

He said, "At Emarat Al Youm we are grateful for her support in the treatment of a number of patients and other urgent cases that the newspaper has published via the "hotline" pages. I would like to take this opportunity to invite other members from the community as well as corporations, become an embodiment of the bright image of the UAE community, and boost their participation in social responsibility, by helping alleviate the suffering of their brothers and sisters that are trying to survive under difficult living conditions."

The Al Manal Initiative was established in 2013, by Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to activate humanitarian work locally and regionally, and to entrench the UAE's values that enhance the importance of humanitarian work. Every year, the Al Manal initiative offer activities and programmes at local and international levels to serve different issues in society, including education, health, nutrition, child and family, as well as social and awareness programmes.

Since its inception, Al Manal Initiative collaborated with Noor Dubai Foundation through the "Noor Al Hayat" project, which has provided prevention and treatment services to 1 million patients suffering from sight ailments in different regions of the world. More, Al Manal Initiative has donated with 3 million Dirhams for the Campaign for Syrian Refugees, along with additional plans to launch activities and programs at the local and international level that serve different issues in the community, including education, health and nutrition.
