Abu Dhabi - The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), the entity responsible for the development of the emirate into a world-class, sustainable destination of distinction, and the conservation and promotion of its heritage and culture, has announced two significant new management appointments.

Former Acting Executive Director of Tourism, HE Sultan Al Mutawa Al Dhaheri, has been appointed as Executive Director of the Tourism Sector, at the same time as HE Nawal Rashid Al Hassani becomes Executive Director of Strategy and Planning Sector.

HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, said: “The appointments of HE Sultan Hamad Al Dhaheri and HE Nawal Rashid Al Hassani reflects the excellent contributions both have already made to the successes of the Department in promoting Abu Dhabi on the world stage, and our continuing confidence in their vision and professionalism. . This move reflects positively on the high quality talent we have at the Department and is in line with our stated aim at the Department to hold ourselves to the highest standards and aim for excellence in everything we do.

Al Dhaheri was appointed as Acting Executive Director of the Tourism Sector in 2014. He has been influential since that time in developing the plans and initiatives to promote Abu Dhabi and accelerate its evolution into a world-class destination. This support has encompassed developing the sector’s sustainability priorities, growing the tourism sector and extending its value chain to stimulate and enhance the reputation of the emirate.

Al Dhaheri holds an Executive MBA from London Business School and a B.Sc. Degree in Information Systems from United Arab Emirates University.

HE Nawal Al Hassani has worked for more than 15 years in management in the government sector. She has been Acting Director of Strategy Planning & Performance Management and Director of Information Technology at DCT Abu Dhabi since 2014, supporting the economic vision of the emirate by leading the formulation and execution of strategic efforts across both the Culture and the Tourism Sectors within the Department.  

Al Hassani has led the ‘smart government’ transformation at DCT Abu Dhabi and has been key in establishing effective and efficient communication channels with key stakeholders from both private and government sectors. She has been working as an Excellence Assessor since 2013 and holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science with distinction from United Arab Emirates University and an MBA with distinction from Abu Dhabi University.
