Manama, AGU: Urban Planning Professor in the College of Graduate Studies in the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) Dr Ahmed Al Kholei continues to deliver a series of practical training workshops on the skills of using the scientific data analysis software "Atlas" and its assisting role in conducting qualitative scientific research.

In the third workshop within the chain, Dr Al Kholei defined qualitative research as the research that works on analysing the content of data that are not subject to statistical weight, such as individuals' finances, motivations and sensitivities, which can be understood by analysing a set of dependent and intermediate variables and analysing the relations between them, adding that this type of research is common in research related to history, media, political science, social and psychological studies.

The workshop also highlighted the features and uses of Atlas analytical software in analysing data, managing qualitative research, how to explore data and methods of analysing it. Dr Al Kholei also pointed out to the attendees that scientific research directed at human service must be based on an integrative process, in which all elements come together to reach integrated results.

Clarifying further, the Professor said: "It is known that there are two methodologies for scientific research, which are the quantitative and qualitative methodologies. However, research related to people cannot be limited to static statistical results, but rather needs interaction based on studying society in its various environmental, economic, social and political elements. That is in addition to measuring the trends of different opinions in it and reaching results that are drawn from various means, such as direct communication, observation and coexistence, as well as collecting official data and statistics, conducting opinion polls and other field studies, in order to reach an integrated picture about the research topic."

By the end of the workshop, Dr Al Kholei underlined that, despite the existence of several qualitative analysis software, Atlas is considered as one of the most distinguished bilingual software that is able to  analyse the factors affecting the formation of the phenomenon and analysing the relations between them.
