TIER launches innovative and climate-neutral e-scooter service in Dubai after being selected by RTA

German micro-mobility provider TIER selected by the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) for sustainable shared e-scooter services

  • E-scooters with swappable battery technology will be deployed in Dubai across different areas such as Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT) and Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard in Downtown
  • The new mode of transport will make urban transport greener, smarter and more convenient for people living around the city

Dubai, United Arab Emirates—TIER, the leading European micro-mobility provider hailing from Berlin and now operating in more than 80 cities across 10 different countries worldwide, has launched its first fleet of industry-leading e-scooters in Dubai after being selected as a leading service provider by the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA). With a mission to ‘change mobility for good’, TIER will support Dubai’s  vision in becoming a futuristic, smart and sustainable city.

TIER’s emergence in the UAE market comes within the larger framework of supporting UAE’s 2021 vision to become a world-leading country within the sustainability landscape. The company is the first provider in the Middle East to use swappable battery technology, this positions TIER at the industry forefront in terms of sustainability, since the need to transport scooters to warehouses every day, back and forth for charging is obsolete and empty batteries can be swapped on-site from the local team.

“Sustainability is a core value of our company which is why we are honoured and excited to be selected as the top choice by the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) to support them with their journey for a greener tomorrow, by providing our services to Dubai’s residents and visitors alike, whilst allowing them to move around the city in a more sustainable, convenient and lively way - a new era in urban travel,” said Lawrence Leuschner, CEO and co-founder of TIER.

The e-scooters can be easily accessed via the TIER mobile app - which will operate on a 24/7 basis - and be strategically located at various key locations around Dubai; Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT) and Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard in Downtown, with other planned locations in the future. Riders will have the option to use  ‘pay-as-you-go’ offered at a rate of AED 1 per minute of usage, or opt for a subscription model which is ideal for frequent commuters. Payments can be made through PayPal, Visa or MasterCard. The TIER app will also enable users to conveniently book their rides through a quick QR code scanning mechanism, in addition to renting and parking their scooters hassle-free via an innovative virtual parking system.

TIER’s e-scooters are further recognized for their cutting-edge safety features, which include the largest front wheel in the market, a wider foot plate, dual suspension, a double kick-stand and dual drum brakes for a safe yet comfortable ride. Most recently, the company has ensured that it follows the stringent safety measures during Covid-19 by carrying out frequent disinfections to its fleet of scooters. “We believe that during these unprecedented times, our business concept will be put to best use as it will reinforce social distancing measures by promoting alternative yet safe and sustainable ways of transport,” added Leuschner.

TIER will be the first and last mile connectivity provider to link people with their vehicles, public transport stations, homes, offices and retail outlets across Dubai, providing them with an eco-friendly, safe and accessible approach to avoid traffic whilst enjoying the outdoors.
