Lafarge Egypt member of Holcim Group  signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Kafr El Sheikh Governorate, with the objective of supporting Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt’s vision 2030. Lafarge Egypt through Corporate Social Responsibility endeavors works “Hand in Hand”, with kafr El Sheikh Governorate to implement various projects, starting with optimizing the roads network. Building on its industrial and research experience, Lafarge Egypt paved several internal roads in Baltim. The company’s initiative reinforces citizens’ accessibility to utilities and connects the village to the main road.

Lafarge Egypt, a member of Holcim Group, proudly announces cooperation with Kafr El Sheikh Governorate, rehabilitating the governorate’s internal roads network. Building on its industrial and research experience, Lafarge Egypt finances paving 5000 square meters of internal roads in Baltim. This initiative comes in line with Lafarge Egypt’s commitment to developing the communities it operates in, and contributing to sustainable development nationwide.

Governor of Kafr El Sheikh, Gamal Nour El-Dein expressed his deep appreciation for Lafarge Egypt’s endeavors, saying: “We value the pivotal role played by Lafarge Egypt utilizing innovative materials to enhance several internal roads in Baltim. The company’s initiative reinforces citizens’ accessibility to utilities, connects the village to the main road and facilitates residents commuting, especially children going daily to a school in a neighboring village.” The Governor also emphasized the importance of innovation and scientific research, while praising the importance of the alliance between the state, the private sector and the civil society.

He added we conducted thorough studies revealing that there are villages that need infrastructure upgrading, including unpaved internal roads which hinders people movement especially during the rainy season. Through this initiative to pave internal roads, we maximize the added value to the community, contributing to creating a Decent Life.”

Lafarge Egypt uses green materials for paving the roads. In Baltim, the first step: soil samples were collected from the site and sent to the lab to identify its suitability of treatment, and manufacturing the optimum mixture of HRB. The second step: the company implemented the needed on site preliminary road leveling & grading for accurate depth and width of the designed road. HRB was distributed on the road, based on the characteristics of soil. Finally: leveling & compaction was implemented to achieve road design requirements.  The produced paving material is cost effective and eco-friendly allowing to comply with the rural nature and needs while swiftly paving the internal roads, building a better world for a better future.
