Abu Dhabi, UAE – In line with the Year of Zayed initiative, Abu Dhabi University has allocated AED11.5 million to scholarships and financial aid for the first semester of the upcoming academic year 2018-2019 that will begin on 2 September. The scholarship amount is expected to benefit around 1,689 outstanding and financially challenged students.

With this allocation, ADU’s Scholarships and Financial Aid Fund has succeeded in easing the financial burdens of more than 8,643 students through contributing over AED151,000,000 since its inception in 2003.

Abu Dhabi University’s scholarships provide meritorious students in need with financial aid that ranges from a 10 percent to 40 percent discount on the university’s study fees. Interested students can apply to the University’s scholarship office that will evaluate applications on a case by case basis to confirm eligibility for the scholarship.

Ali Saeed bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, Chairman of Abu Dhabi University’s Board of Directors, said: “A higher education institution’s primary role is not limited to merely providing education. It extends to finding flexible and innovative ways to help pay for that education. We provide not only educational and support services for students, but also facilitate the funding and assistance to acquire the education that will later help qualify them for fields that are both innovative and creative.”

Al Dhaheri added: “Our programs provide students from less fortunate economic backgrounds who have excelled in secondary school with the chance to secure a world-class higher education and build a better future. This will strengthen our economy through creating a generation that is open to global challenges and ideas in all fields and increase the competitiveness and progress of the UAE.”

Al Dhaheri pointed out that Abu Dhabi University’s scholarship and assistance programs include the His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Scholarship, the Chairman’s Scholarship, the University Scholarship, the Academic Scholarship, the Athletic Scholarship, the Alumni Scholarship, and the Family Tuition Waiver.
