MANAMA: Bahrain recorded the highest number of coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in a single day yesterday.

The Health Ministry announced 301 new cases which included 212 migrant workers, 63 individuals who came in close contact with positive cases, 14 cases from those who returned from abroad and 12 were unspecified.

This took the total number of active cases in the country to 1,397 including one critical patient, while the total number of recoveries until yesterday reached 1,113.

“Early detection of Covid-19 cases among expatriate workers and quarantining contacts of new cases expedite treatment, and strengthen precautionary measures established to safeguard the health of citizens and residents,” said the ministry.

A total of 105,365 people have so far been tested.

Meanwhile, Salmaniya Medical Complex Infectious and Internal Diseases consultant Dr Jameela Al Salman said, during a televised programme on Bahrain Television International yesterday, that though the active cases were stable, some had developed pneumonia.

“Bahrain has a high recovery rate and we undertook a wide range of measures since January to tackle the pandemic, and we’re ahead all the time compared with other countries,” she added.
