Students were warned anew against enrolling at overseas universities which are not accredited in Bahrain as they don’t comply with international students.

The National Qualifications Accreditation Committee, which is in charge of scrutinising overseas diplomas, cited the case of the Chinese Southeast University (SEU).

The panel assessed 55 academic degrees obtained from overseas universities and found them incompliant with the accreditation terms and standards.

Education Ministry Under-Secretary for Educational Affairs and the Curricula Dr Fawzi Al Jowder said that students are still enrolling at unaccredited overseas universities, ignoring repeated recommendations, directives and warnings.

“A big number of students have joined these controversial universities without checking with the accreditation committee to ensure their compliance with international standards,” he said.

The committee which was set up by royal decree, is made up of officials representing different scientific fields.

The role of the Education Ministry is restricted to rubberstamping the recommendations of the committee which operates independently.

Dr Al Jowder, head of the committee, said that the panel has so far accredited 90 academic certificates obtained from Chinese universities and rejected 94 others deemed flawed academically.

He urged students and parents to log in to the Information and Electronic Government Authority (iGA) portal and get updated about the list of accredited overseas universities on link: (http://Bahrain.bh/RUa).
