Flyadeal, the new low-fares airline launched by Saudi Arabia Airlines Corporation (Saudia), the country's national carrier, carried out its first commercial flight between Jeddah and Riyadh on Saudi National Day on Saturday.The flight took off from Jeddah to Riyadh, where a press conference was held before it returned to Jeddah, which is currently the only route on offer. The airline began selling flights on the route last week, offering promotional one-way fares from 48 Saudi riyals ($12.79), and said that it had sold 10,000 seats within 24 hours.
Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, the chairman of Flyadeal and director-general of Saudi Arabian Airlines Corporation, said: “We developed Flyadeal to serve as Saudi Arabia’s new low-fare Airline and align with the kingdom’s 2030 vision to diversify the local economy for the benefit of all."
He said the inaugural flight marked "the beginning of our efforts to serve the growing desire for travel in Saudi Arabia".
The company is operating an initial fleet of eight, new Airbus A320s, which it has leased from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise.
