The Health Ministry, in co-operation with the Interior Ministry, set up sample collection stations at Bab Al Bahrain, Durrat Al Bahrain and Budaiya, where teams collected samples through mobile screening units.
The ministry said the specialised medical team, which includes volunteers from the National Campaign to Combat the Coronavirus, took the samples from older people and those with a susceptibility to the virus for laboratory tests.
They also collected samples from hypermarkets, groceries, cold stores, bakeries and pharmacies to preserve the safety of the staff and their families and all citizens and residents.
“Co-ordination continues with the Interior Ministry through the General Directorate of Civil Defence to carry out purification and sterilisation operations in some of these areas,” added the Health Ministry in a statement.
“There’s also co-operation with the Community Service Police to ensure compliance of citizens and residents with the instructions issued, such as preventing gatherings in roads, streets, squares, beaches, parks and other public places for more than five people, and following social distancing measures.”
The Interior Ministry also said that the participation of the Community Service Police in these field visits comes within the framework of its security duties and awareness-raising efforts aimed at enhancing public safety.
Meanwhile, the Civil Defence conducted 5,618 disinfection operations in various areas as part of a plan to combat the virus.
“The plan has three main dimensions; enhancing field preparedness, precautionary disinfection training programmes for volunteers and various sectors, and raising awareness about the dangers of the virus and ways to prevent it from spreading,” said acting head of planning and development at the Civil Defence Captain Hamad Sabah Siwar.
“Teams from the public and private sectors have been formed to carry the disinfection operations at our facilities, in addition to training and establishing other teams that carry out professional disinfection operations, while the awareness and training hub focuses on preparing volunteer teams to support Civil Defence teams in carrying out preventive clean-up operations only.
“The Civil Defence carried out 5,618 clearance operations and organised 784 lectures and trained 256 personnel from the various sectors and 457 volunteers.”
