Etihad Airways has announced that its passengers can now take coronavirus tests within the comfort of their home prior to their flight.

The Abu Dhabi-based carrier has tied up with healthcare provider Mediclinic Middle East to administer PCR home testing services for travellers.

Passengers can arrange for a home visit with medical personnel shortly after completing the ticket booking and the results will be available within 24 hours of the test swab reaching the laboratory.

Travellers departing the UAE may be required to present a negative coronavirus certificate prior to departure, depending on their country of destination. All customers are advised to check with the airline’s website for specific destination requirements.

The home service can also be booked for Etihad passengers in Dubai and other emirates who are crossing the Abu Dhabi border to reach the international airport in the UAE capital.

The initiative is part of the airline’s Etihad Wellness sanitisation and safety programme. “We have a paramount responsibility to ensure those who are travelling from Abu Dhabi can do so, assured in the knowledge that every effort is being made to care for them at every stage of their journey,” said Dr. Nadia Bastaki, vice president for medical services at Etihad.

“Enabling home PCR testing will remove much unnecessary stress form the travel experience during this challenging period,” she added.

Baggage technology and logistics company DUBZ, operated by Emirates Group’s dnata, had earlier launched its COVID-19 home testing service for travellers departing in Dubai.
