MANAMA: An MP has submitted a proposal aiming to provide 10,000 jobs for Bahraini jobseekers for an average monthly salary of BD1,500.

A temporary fund, financed by Tamkeen, the Unemployment Fund and government subsidy, should be set up to support wages for four years, Ahmed Al Salloom said.

The proposal aims to replace expatriate employees in a number of jobs with Bahrainis after training them for four years during which the fund will shoulder their wages, he told our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.

The ambitious project will help reduce the number of Bahraini jobseekers, which will result in reducing amounts of unemployment benefits, he pointed out.

The initiative includes specific jobs, most of them are vocational careers that require training programmes rather than academic or university qualifications, he said, citing particularly human resources, computer programming and maintenance, sales and marketing, hospitality, insurance and healthcare support services.
