Al Mukalla, 16th August, 2017 (WAM) -- The Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, today signed an agreement to implement a water network project in the Al Misbah and Al Asam districts of Al Soum in Hadramaut Governorate.

The agreement specifies the drilling, digging and connection of individual wells to a main water reservoir in the area, as well as the rehabilitation of internal water networks, the construction of a water pump station and the establishment of water networks.

During the signing of the agreement, which was attended by Salim Saeed Bashamakha, Director-General of Al Soum Directorate, Saeed Awad Bahmish, Project Manager, and Awad bin Mohammed bin Qafla, Regional Delegate, Ahmed Al Neyadi, Head of the ERC Team in Hadramaut, highlighted the urgency to start implementing the project to provide safe and clean drinking water to the local citizens, due to its importance.

He added that the agreement comes under the framework of providing improved levels of services, as part of the ERCs development and infrastructure projects.

He stressed that the Commission has adopted an overall integrated plan to implement projects related to water, health, education and infrastructure on several levels, adding that infrastructure projects are among the ERCs priorities, to restore the normal living conditions before the start of the crisis in the region.

He also stressed that the issue of water shortages is the main problem faced by people in desert areas. Therefore, the Commission aims to ensure the implementation of this important project, to provide drinking and irrigation water and alleviate the difficulty experienced by local people to access water supplies, through various water projects.

Bashamakha thanked the UAEs leadership, government and people for their projects and initiatives to support local infrastructure, services and relief efforts. He also praised the ERCs efforts to launch these vital projects and help alleviate the suffering of citizens living in desert areas.
