TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom supplied nuclear fuel components for research reactor in Egypt

The shipments are executed under several contracts between NCCP and the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority

TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom supplied a range of nuclear fuel components for ETRR-2 research reactor in Egypt which are supplied by Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant (NCCP PJSC, an enterprise of TVEL Fuel Company), the key Russian manufacturer of nuclear fuel for research reactors and its components. The shipments are executed under several contracts between NCCP PJSC and the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority which were signed earlier in 2018 in coordination with TVEL PJSC.

The supplied components will be applied for the manufacturing of nuclear fuel for ETRR-2 reactor at the Nuclear Research Center in Inshas which has its own facility for fuel batch fabrication. The Argentinian-design multipurpose nuclear reactor ETRR-2 is used for various scientific researches namely particle physics, materials engineering, nuclear medicine, as well as for the production of stable isotopes.

“The successful accomplishment of the deal is the result of the efficient cooperation between project teams of both customer and supplier. TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom considers Egypt as an important and prominent market. Since the signature of the contract for the supply of nuclear fuel supplies to El Dabaa NPP came in force in 2017, TVEL envisions supplying nuclear fuel all four power units of El Dabaa plant with the total capacity of 4800 MW during the whole operation period. Furthermore, Central Design and Technological Institute, a TVEL’s subsidiary, is involved in the construction of the storage facility for spent nuclear fuel from El Dabaa NPP as a design subcontractor”, commented Oleg Grigoriyev, Senior Vice President for Commerce and International Business at TVEL JSC.
