ArabFinance: Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the Egyptian market operate their business with EGP 77.1 billion worth of capital, Chairman of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) Khairat Barakat said.

According to Egypt’s fifth economic census, the SMEs operate through nearly 1.7 million institutions.

Barakat noted that these enterprises hire 5.8 million employees, with 36.3% of them work in Cairo, Giza, and Alexandria.

As for investment institutions, Egypt the census showed a volume of 139,200 in which 2.8 million employees are hired. They operate with a capital of EGP 682.6 billion, the chairman elaborated.

It is noteworthy that the fifth economic census indicated a production capacity of EGP 3.3 trillion from both the formal and informal private sector in Egypt.
