Khatib & Alami (K&A), a multidisciplinary design consultancy which operates primarily across the Middle East & Africa, Levant, Central and South-East Asia, and Europe, has announced the completion of drilling work for the Arafat-Taif water transmission tunnel project.

One of the longest water transmission tunnels in the world, Arafat-Taif project is being developed by Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC).

Completed ahead of schedule, despite the terrain challenges and the Corona pandemic, the 8.4-m-long tunnel extends 12.5 km, stated ILF Consulting Engineers is the technical consultant for the project, K&A, the construction supervision consultant for the project.

The project is aimed at transporting potable water from the Arafat Tanks near Makkah to the cities of Taif, Al Baha, and nearby villages in western Saudi Arabia.

With the completion of the drilling work, K&A said it has completed the first major milestone of this critical project, which is being implemented in four packages.

The Package A is for the supply of pipes, Package B for the pipe laying, Package C for the construction of pumping stations and Package D for the construction of a 12.5 km tunnel.
