The value of Bahrain’s exports of national origin decreased by 6 per cent to BD532 million ($1.4 billion) during fourth quarter 2019, compared to BD567 million for the same quarter of the previous year, a report said.

The top 10 countries in terms of the value of exports of national origin purchased from Bahrain accounted for 78 per cent of the total value, whilst the remaining countries accounted for only 22 per cent, said the kingdom’s Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) in its foreign trade report of fourth quarter 2019, encompassing data on the balance of trade, imports, exports (national origin), and re-exports.

Saudi Arabia topped the countries receiving Bahraini exports of national origin, by importing BD138 million from Bahrain. Meanwhile, the UAE ranked second with BD55 million and the US third with BD52 million.

Agglomerated iron ores and concentrates emerged as the top products exported during fourth quarter 2019 with BD93 million, unwrought aluminium (not alloyed) was second with a value of BD52 million, and unwrought aluminium alloyed third with BD45 million.

The total value of re-exports increased by 33 per cent reaching BD220 million in fourth quarter 2019, compared to BD165 million for the same quarter of the previous year. The top 10 countries accounted for 92 per cent of the re-exported value, while the remaining countries accounted for 8 per cent. The United Arab Emirates ranked first with BD102 million, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia second with BD63 million, and China third with BD9 million.

Gold ingots emerged as the top product re-exported from Bahrain with BD36 million, Agglomerated iron ores and concentrates came in second place with BD31 million, and four-wheel drive cars came third with BD29 million.

The trade balance, which is the difference between exports and imports, recorded a deficit totalling BD530 million during fourth quarter 2019 compared to BD731 million in the same quarter of the previous year, achieving an improvement in the trade balance by 27 per cent.

The value of imports decreased by 12 per cent, reaching BD 1,282billion during fourth quarter 2019 compared to BD 1,463billion for the same quarter the previous year. The top 10 countries accounted for 70 per cent of the value of imports, while the remaining countries accounting for just 30 per cent.

According to the report, China ranked first when it came to imports to Bahrain, with a total of BD227 million, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was second with BD105 million, and the United Arab Emirates was third with BD89 million.

Aluminium oxide emerged as the top product imported into Bahrain with a total value of BD88 million, while four-wheel drive cars was second with BD53 million, and Floating or submersible drilling platforms third with BD50 million. – TradeArabia News Service
