Work on revamping Muharraq Grand Park is nearing completion, with 94 per cent of the project already finished.

Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf inspected the progress of the project, accompanied by Under-Secretary Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Muharraq Municipality director general Ibrahim AlJowder and other officials.

Located near Bahrain International Airport, the garden which covers 90,692 square metres, features several recreational components, including a children’s play area, shaded family areas, and a walkway that links all elements of the park to accommodate all age categories.

“The two play areas which cover about 2,000 square metres has been covered with a rubber floor according to international specifications to cater to people with special needs and take into account their rights,” said the minister.

The garden will be fitted with 22 physical fitness equipment, a parking lot accommodating 550 cars, 33 security surveillance cameras and a 22sqm flag area with a 25-metre-high mast.

The park also features a1,000 metre-long and eight-metre-wide walkway, a spray system along the walkway to give a refreshing atmosphere.

There will be a four-metre-high wall fountain, which can be used on all occasions and at all times as a large display board for various guiding phrases and colour pictures.

In the middle of the garden is a “dancing” fountain on an arc covering 350sqm, creating a fun family atmosphere.

The park has been planted with various types of trees, shrubs, palms and local distinctive fruit trees such as lemon, almond, and cactus trees.

It has also been planted with more than 150 Bahraini sidr berry trees, along with over 1,000 date palms and ornamental palms.
