British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said the costs of the country's HS2 high-speed railway project have escalated and are now "enormous".

He has said he has not yet made a decision on whether the project should run to Manchester as had originally been expected.

"It's clear that the costs of this programme have escalated," he told Times Radio on Tuesday.

"The sums involved, as you've heard, are enormous."
