TVEL Fuel Company, a part of Russia's osatom State Corporation, has been awarded a contract by the Egyptian Atomic Energy Agency (EAEA) to supply another batch of low-enriched fuel components.

The contract was awarded to Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant (NCCP), one of the world's leading manufacturers of nuclear fuel for nuclear power plants and research reactors, according to statement by TVEL.

It said NCCP and EAEA had signed a long-term frame contract for exports of Russian-made nuclear fuel components, including uranium components, as well as products made of the aluminum alloy, and aluminum powder, for ETRR-2 reactor.

ETRR-2, a research reactor of Argentinian design, is based at the Nuclear Research Centre in Inshas, Egypt.

The first shipments under the long-term contract were made in 2020 despite the COVID-19 related restrictions.

"In 2020, under the Customer’s request, some of the products were shipped even ahead of the schedule. Moreover, under last year’s lockdown restrictions in Europe, unprecedented efforts were made to fulfill TVEL’s contracts for supply of our fuel for research reactors to the Czech Republic and Hungary, and they were fully accomplished. Under any circumstances, the customer-oriented approach remains the key priority of the Fuel Division of Rosatom,” Aleksey Zhiganin, Director General of NCCP, said.

TVEL has been contracted to supply nuclear fuel to all four power units of Egypt's 4,800 MWe El Dabaa NPP [Nuclear Power Plant] for the entire operation period.
