Bangladesh will pay $318 million to state-owned Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation using Chinese yuan, The Washington Post reported, citing an official of the South Asian country's Finance Ministry.

The report said the transaction is yet to be completed because payment details still need to be resolved.

The payment for a $12 billion loan Bangladesh obtained from Russia to develop a nuclear power plant in Rooppur, is expected to be routed through China's Cross-border Interbank Payment System (CIPS).

The payment was delayed for more than a year after Russia was banned from accessing the SWIFT international money transfer system after the invasion of Ukraine.

A representative for Rosatom, which is building the Rooppur nuclear power plant, confirmed the plan, the newspaper said.

In March, Fox News Channel reported that China and Brazil struck a deal to pay for trade transactions in their own currencies.
