Emirates University secures second place while Al Ain Higher Colleges of Technology settles for third

The Center for Career Guidance and Planning (CCGP) of the National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority (Tanmia) has announced that Zayed University (Dubai) has emerged champion after the final round of the Tanmia-Damas Career Quiz 2008, which was held recently at the Al Multaqa Hall of the World Trade Centre.

Zayed University (Dubai) bested contenders from Emirates University and Al Ain Higher Colleges of Technology in the championship round, which was held as one of the highlights of the 8th Careers UAE Exhibition. Zayed University (Dubai) received a championship trophy and gifts from perennial event sponsor Damas. Emirates University secured the second place, while Al Ain Higher Colleges of Technology was third.

A total of over 100 students from the three participating universities were involved in the competition, which held a series of preliminary rounds to determine the top four students from each college or university who advanced to the championship round.

"We have concluded another highly successful cycle of the Tanmia-Damas Career Quiz and we are very pleased to see the level of competition increasing each year. The quiz has been a fun and informative way of encouraging UAE national students about the happenings in the country's dynamic job market, which we believe is critically important in the overall development of country because these students represent the future of the UAE," said Saif Ibrahim Al Noaimi, Director of CCGP.

"I would like to congratulate Zayed University (Dubai) for a superb performance in the competition, while I would also like to applaud the rest of the participants from (name of school) and (name of school) for their efforts and for showcasing their skills and expertise during the competition. On behalf of the organising team, I would also like to thank Damas, DWTC, the participating schools and all our partners for helping ensure the success of this event," added Al Noaimi.

The inter-school competition, sponsored exclusively by the Social and Cultural Affairs Department of Damas and with the participation of Zayed University, Emirates University, Higher Colleges of Technology and the support of Dubai World Trade Center, aims to raise student awareness of career opportunities, promote emiratisation, and highlight the status of today's job market.

About Tanmia:
Tanmia, the National Human Resource Development & Employment Authority in the UAE, was established by a Presidential decree in November 1999, to address the imbalance in the labour market, due to excessive dependence on expatriate workforce. Tanmia is engaged in a coordinating role, between national job seekers and employers in the private and government sectors, to facilitate increased entry of nationals in the labour market.
