For the second consecutive year, Vacheron Constantin organized an awards ceremony at the American University in Dubai to honour the winners of the second Vacheron Constantin Arabic Poetry contest for Young Poetic Talents in the presence of the UAE Minister of health, H.E Mr. Humaid Mohamed Obeid Al Qutami, Mr. Ebrahim Abdel Malek, Secretary General of the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare representing H.E Mr. Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development of the UAE, and Mr. Marc Guten, International Director of Vacheron Constantin.

?After the success of last year's edition, the contest welcomed this year, participants not only from the U.A.E, but also from all over the GCC and Jordan.

The contestants were university students, who were given an opportunity to showcase their talent in classical or contemporary Arabic poetry. Commemorating this, a book including a selection of the best poems was published and distributed during the event.

Mr. Marc Guten, International Director of Vacheron Constantin said: "Vacheron Constantin has a long history with the Middle East. As the world's oldest watchmaking manufacture; we had our first exchanges with this part of the world even then since 1863. Prestigious clients such as King Fouad 1st, King Farouk, King Ibn Saud - great families and great leaders, and more recently Her Majesty Rania Al-Abdullah, Queen of Jordan, have been and are still faithful to our Manufacture, wearing exceptional creations which are nowadays iconic timepieces in our heritage."

He ended his speech saying: "I'm grateful to have this great opportunity to turn our attention to a cultural quest... Share and enjoy poetry, encourage young and promising university students, meet writers, contribute to inspiration, but also challenge and reward the best talents. For all these reasons, I welcome all the participants to the Vacheron Constantin Arabic Poetry contest, and wish them great inspiration".

The ceremony commenced with a show prepared by Vacheron Constantin honouring one of the great poets in the Arab world, Mahmoud Darwish. A sensational ambience was created with live music, poetry by this Arabian legend and reflective theatre effects.

Further, Mr. Ebrahim Abdel Malek, Secretary General of the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare, delivered his speech and the jury members chaired by renowned poets and authors were honoured. The jury members for the classical category were Dr. Aref Al Sheikh, Mr. Yaacoub Al Sibeei, & Sheikh Hilal Bin Salem Al Siyabi. The jury members for the contemporary category were Mr. Salim Al Zamar, Mr. Ali Al Sabaan, and Mr. Ali Al Harthi.

The show then continued with the finalists reciting their poems, both in classical and contemporary categories, with pieces that depicted the aspect of "brotherhood" and "Time". The winner in the classical category was Ashraf Bin Hamad Al Assimi from Sultan Qabous university, and in the contemporary category, the winner was Mohammad Sbeei, a Saudi national from Qatar university. Finalists in the classical category were Osama Ghawji from Jordan University, Mohammad Omar Hassani from Sharjah Unviersity, Hassan Bassam Hassan from Jordan University, and Abdul Aziz Bin Faisal Al Migrin from Imam Muhammad ibn Saud University in Saudi Arabia respectively. In the contemporary category, finalists were Khaled El Zawahreh from Jordan University, Khaled Hamed El Hbabi from Qatar University, Hamad Al Marri from Qatar University, and Ahmad Al Hammadi from the United Arab Emirates University respectively. H.E Mr. Humaid Al Qutami presented the awards to the participants and Mr. Marc Guten offered each of the winners a Vacheron Constantin timepiece especially engraved for this special occasion.
