A twenty-three-year-old Iranian has been crowned PALME DJ of the Year 2008' at the annual competition held at PALME Middle East at Dubai's International Exhibition Centre.
Amin Golestan fought off more than 50 amateur & professional DJs from across the region to take the coveted crown in a thrilling 10 minute live performance that had judges and the packed audience enthralled.
Judges had whittled the shortlist to seven finalists who were each given 10 minutes to show their prowess on the state of the art Pioneer decks. Runners up were Qatari Mohammed Kabbi in fourth place; Sri Lankan Delarn de Silva in third; and Jordanian Ibrahim Saleh in second place.
Speaking about the winner Alexander Heuff, Exhibition Director, PALME Middle East, said: "In the end DJ Amin stood head and shoulders above the competition which was itself extremely high. But his fluency and obvious energy really wowed the judges who were impressed by his technical skill and interaction with the crowd."
As winner of PALME DJ of the Year 2008 Amin takes home a Pacemaker portable mixer and a Pioneer CDJ 1000 professional digital turntable. Runners up also received audio equipment from Pioneer.
The PALME DJ of the Year Competition, the most prestigious title in the region, has over the years enticed the most ambitious and creative DJs to fight it out to become the undisputed number one Middle East DJ.
All contestants were judged on three main criteria: technical, creativity and stage presence. In the technical section, hopefuls had to demonstrate their overlay and mixing skills and utilise all aspects of the equipment. Creative music selection and interaction of various music styles were also under scrutiny as well as appearance, self-confidence and showmanship.
To provide a level playing field and to stretch their creativity and technique, all contestants needed to perform on the Pioneer CDJ 1000 MK3, provided by Platinum sponsor Pioneer. The judging panel comprised DJ Big Pete, Mark Wise, DJ Greg Dufton, DJ Mo, Jamal Al Sichi and Mike Bufton and other industry professionals.
