Dedicated lube supply craft built at Dubai Drydocks to international safety standards
December 21, 2002
GAC Mumtaz, the world’s only double skin, purpose built lube oil barge was built at Dubai Drydocks and joined GAC’s fleet of dedicated lube supply craft this year. This was the first GAC vessel to be built at Dubai Drydocks.
GAC Mumtaz is capable of handling bulk lube oil, fresh water and deck cargo with a capacity of over 400 cubic meters and can store seven different grades. Six 20-foot tank containers on deck greatly increase her cargo capacity.
“As maritime safety and environmental concerns become increasingly important, the building of a double hulled vessel is a clear statement of our commitment to safer shipping and cleaner oceans”. Stated GAC MD, Per Zachrisson. “While the region moves towards greater awareness of environmental damage caused by oil spills and accidents, we have always invested in ensuring safety of operations. We also have highly trained personnel on all our crafts who are fully prepared to deal with oil spills, accidents or any eventuality.”
At the Regional Clean Seas Organization (RECSO) meet held in Dubai from December 16-18, representatives of IMO (International Maritime Organization), RECSO and ROPME (Regional Organisation for the Protection of the Marine Environment) have agreed upon recommendations to protect Gulf waters from environmental harm.
As one of the regions major ship supply companies, GAC provides services out of Dubai, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE, include crew changes and the supply of spares and provisions in Gulf waters.
GAC first received ISM certification two years ago and has recently been re-certified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV). GAC is also certified as an ISO 9002 company by DNV.
