Options for Sourcing IT Security Need to be Top of the Management Agenda in Middle East
Dubai, United Arab Emirates At a time when IT security is a crucial issue for all companies, many executives are looking for new ways to deal with the problem. Some are choosing to outsource responsibility to external suppliers, but an increasing number are choosing to co-source IT security, so that they share responsibilities and resources for IT security with a specialist company and retain core processes within the company.
“Organizations often don’t have the time or personnel to develop comprehensive IT security solutions on their own, but that doesn’t mean their only option is to handover full responsibility to an outside agency,” says Daniel Nufer, regional sales director for ComGuard, a leading Middle East-based security consultancy. “Often, the most effective solution is co-sourcing, so that companies can retain core parts of the decision-making process within their company, but pass responsibility for management and maintenance to a third party,” he suggests.
Co-sourcing has grown in popularity as an approach to many different types of business activities, including customer care and managing call centers, and the IT security co-sourcing market is showing dynamic growth potential. Typically, a company’s IT executives will work with external experts to design the security architecture. The experts then play a key role in implementing and managing the system, either by working with the company’s network administrator or by providing specialists to do the job.
Businesses benefit from round-the-clock access to experienced IT security consultants and the most-up-to-date technology, but don’t have to pass the security of their company’s secrets into the hands of another organization. In addition, co-sourcing is often the most effective way of ensuring that the relationship between company and security supplier evolves in a beneficial way for all parties.
“A lot of outsourcing partnerships fail because there isn’t a clear link between the security strategy and the direction of the company, or because companies think that outsourcing makes IT security one less thing to worry about,” comments Nufer. “Co-sourcing means that, as well as getting extra bandwidth and brainpower, companies are involved in an ongoing discussion that links the security strategy to the business strategy, which helps to protect their critical assets” he concludes.
