Engineer Hatem Dowidar, Marketing Director at Vodafone Egypt, has together with Dr. Nabeel Salem, President of the Egyptian Federation of Handicapped Sports, signed a renewal contract thereby Vodafone will sponsor sportive activities of the federation. The contract will enable Vodafone to continue its very important role which started last year, a role that supported all local activities and events.
Engineer Hatem Dowidar declared that Vodafone's sponsorship of sportive activities of the Egyptian Federation of Handicapped Sports is one of the most important programs and that such sponsorship resulted in acquisition of so many Olympic medals during Sydney contests 2000 by Egyptian handicapped champions.
Engineer Hatem Dowidar added that this season has started with a real distinguished championship, that is Vodafone 2nd tournament for governorate first teams held in Port Said under the auspices of Dr. Ali Eldin Helal, Minister of Youth and Sports, and General Dr. Moustafa Kamel, Governor of Port Said. The championship lasted for five days and was nearly a mini Olympic event in which 1200 athletes participated to represent 23 governorates. The event incorporated so many games such as Athletics, Weight Lifting, Table Tennis, and Basketball on Mobile Chairs, Volleyball on Mobile Chairs, Bellball for Blinds and Football for Deaf ' Mute. The Egyptian Federation of Handicapped Sports was keen to make a festival out of this event for handicapped that is no less than University Week or Championships of Enterprises.
Pertaining future activities, Engineer Hatem Dowidar, added that Vodafone is currently conducting a study with the Egyptian Federation of Handicapped Sports to sponsor The World Championship of Volleyball that will be held during the period from September 26 to October 3 in which 12 states participate.
Vodafone is proud to be the leader within the area of sponsoring sportive activities in Egypt. This sponsorship program incorporates most Egyptian sportive federations; The Egyptian Football Federation. Vodafone sponsors National Teams of all levels, Egyptian Periodic Tournaments, Egyptian Cup Contests, Egyptian Super between best two teams at Periodic and Cup matches. The sponsorship program resulted in acquisition of a bronze Cup during World Cup for Youth by the Egyptian First Team. The sponsorship program also incorporates Fencing and Shouting. Vodafone sponsored the first World Tournament in Fencing to be held in Egypt.
Water sports constitute a major concern of Vodafone, which supports Wind Surfing, Skiing, Swimming, Water Polo and Long Distance Swimming. Vodafone also is about to sign a contract with The Egyptian Federation for Swimming to sponsor the first World Long Distance Swimming to be held in Egypt.
Vodafone remained for the second year consecutively the official sponsor of Periodic Egyptian Tennis and Table Tennis, and Golf. Vodafone also sponsors the Egyptian first team of Squash for women where the first cooperation between the International Federations for Squash last year through sponsoring the Egyptian first team that attained the third position on the international level.
Pertaining vehicle races, Vodafone sponsored the team that participated in Rally of 2000 and that won first position between Egyptians. Vodafone also prepared and funded its own team for Rally 2001.
The entire sports sponsorship program constitutes part of the comprehensive program that Vodafone has set up to reflect its commitment to society in order to develop young talents and support sports through assistance of various sports federations.
Engineer Hatem Dowidar concluded that Vodafone is highly committed to the society it exists in and that such commitment is pushing Vodafone to support and sponsor sports, cultural, scientific as well as shelter activities under the slogan of 'Heading towards a better society.'
