Dubai: Unilever, the world’s leading consumer goods company, today announced the launch of its new body-care product, Love, Beauty and Planet to drive and support the sustainable beauty movement across the Middle East. Making its debut in the region, the new product range aims to reduce its annual carbon footprint by 20 per cent by the year 2020 whilst continuing to minimize waste in the region with its environmental-friendly formulae and ingredients.

The growing public preference for clean, green and sustainable products continues to accelerate as consumers are increasingly more interested in the process of products being manufactured. According to research by TechSci, the MEA market for natural and organic cosmetics could grow annually by 12-15 per cent over the next five years, placing the retail value at $4 billion by 2020*. Unilever’s new retail brand will contribute towards revolutionising consumer behaviour to meet the rising demand of consumers seeking to convert to environmentally responsible products.

“Love, Beauty and Planet has been designed to meet the rising demand from UAE consumers who are looking for more environmentally responsible products. With this launch we are aiming to inspire a movement encouraging everyday change makers in the country to work towards a more green, sustainable and safer planet by reducing carbon footprint and minimizing plastic waste” he added.

Love, Beauty and Planet features hair, oral, skin cleansing and skincare products, with sustainably sourced ingredients, fast-rinse solutions that save water, vegan friendly formulations and bottles that are 100% recycled and recyclable.

In addition, the new product comprises of infused formulas with several natural ingredients including lavender, ylang ylang, coconut water, argan oil, shea butter and tea tree oil, all which are vetted and independently certified by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), for cruelty-free and vegan causes.

 While Unilever set up its presence in Dubai, UAE in 1992, the brands have been traded in the Arabian Peninsula for decades before that. The Unilever office located in the Jebel Ali Free Zone serves as the MENA regions headquarters and also operates as the central hub for the extended region which includes Turkey, Central Asia and Russia.

Unilever Gulf has strong manufacturing capabilities with 2 factories located in the UAE and which has won a host of sustainability and quality awards.  The first is the Lipton Tea factory located in Jebel Ali Free Zone, Dubai. Today, it is Unilever’s leading tea production facility worldwide.

Unilever’s 2nd manufacturing facility located in the UAE is the Dubai Personal Care (DPC) factory located at Dubai Investment Park, UAE. It is a state-of-art manufacturing unit set up in 2016 with an investment of AED 1 billion and with an output of 100,000 tons per year (equal to ½ a billion units pa). With a total size of 100,000 square meters, this factory is the largest personal care liquids manufacturing unit in North Africa and the Middle East region.

In July 2019, Unilever signed an agreement on i-REC with DEWA and is now one of the first companies in the UAE to cover 100% of the electricity consumption requirement of the two factories and two offices with renewables, eliminating 9,116 tons of CO2 emissions.
