Part of the agreement between the Ministry of Health and Novartis Consumer Health towards a smoke free UAE
In accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Health and Novartis Consumer Health regarding working towards a smoke free environment, training programs and workshops have been organized with the objective of providing healthcare practioners with updated and relevant smoking cessation information and helping them support or initiate a smoking cessation clinical practice within their respective institutions by sharing the wealth of experience within the UAE Smoking Cessation system.
The program is being conducted in Radisson SAS Hotel in Sharjah on the 20th and 21st of June 2007 under the theme "Tobacco Dependence: Guidelines for management in Healthcare Settings".
During these 2 days, the program will include training on various topics conducted by Dr. Ahmad Abdullah. Dr. Mohamad Amin will speak about Communication Skills to encourage smokers to quit:
Day 1:
1. Introduction to the program
2. Nicotine Dependence
3. Treating Tobacco Use None- pharmacological
4. Treating Tobacco Use Pharmacological
5. Youth Smoking
Day 2:
1. Elements of a Comprehensive Tobacco Control Program
2. Smoking cessation intervention in Health care Settings
3. Communication Skills (Dr. Mohamad Ameen)
4. Tools and Types of Counseling in Smoking Cessation
5. Tobacco Cessation Special Topics
6. Interactive Session (role play)
The trainer will be Dr. Ahmad Abdullah, Physician in charge of the Smoking Cessation Clinic in the Preventive Medicine Department of the Health Authority in Abu Dhabi.
Rany Victor will be attending the workshops as representative of Novartis Consumer Health and more than 30 healthcare professionals from other GCC Countries who will attend:
