Dubai: Intersec 2005, the biggest ever Middle East police, fire, security and safety show was officially opened today by HE Major General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Commandant General, Dubai Police Force, at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Diplomats from Germany, the UK and many other countries attended the opening with senior executives from the 320 exhibiting companies. Also in attendance were over 40 of the VIP speakers from the shows comprehensive, four part conference programme.
Geoffrey Dickinson, Joint Managing Partner of Intersec organisers Epoc Messe Frankfurt, explained that Intersec 2005 includes dedicated sections featuring four areas of specialisation. He said "these include MEPEC, the Middle East Police Exhibition Conference. MEFEC, the Middle East Fire Exhibition Conference . MECSEC, the Middle East Commercial Security Exhibition Conference, and MESH, the Middle East Safety & Health conference."
In a keynote address at the police summit, HE Major General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim confirmed his support for Intersec, now in its seventh year. He said "Dubai Police believes that it is necessary to have a strategic vision and relationship for the future of police and security issues and also believes it is necessary to be up to date on all breakthroughs and innovations."
Under the chairmanship of Thomas Tass from Borderpol Canada, day one of the police conference focused on policing techniques for the 21st century. Speakers today included Mladen Vulinec, an expert on terrorism with Interpol based in France, Andrew Trotter of the British Transport Police, Khoo Boon Hui, Commissioner of Singapore's police force and Hugh Orde, Chief Constable of Northern Ireland.
MEFEC, the fire conference, started today with a presentation by Ken Knight, Commissioner of London Brigade, focusing on issues associated with homeland security. Simon Tam, a specialist in fire prevention in high rise buildings from Hong Kong, and Frank Peter from Vienna also presented papers covering fire prevention and case study issues. The conference programme for all four events extends until Monday with daily presentations and Q&A sessions.
According to Michael El Nayal, Joint Managing Partner of Epoc Messe Frankfurt, Intersec 2005 will be featuring exhibitors from 30 different countries. "Intersec 2005 includes major pavilions from the UK, Germany, Korea and Taiwan, as well as many companies from the USA. The UAE is also a major supporter of the show with many government departments taking part including the Ministry of Interior, the UAE Navy, Dubai Police, Dubai Airport Freezone Authority and the Federal Water and Electricity Authority".
El Nayal said that "Intersec features 1,000 of latest hi-tech security products, equipment and services. It features some of the biggest international and local names in the business including EADS, LG Electronics, 3M and Bosch." Over 50 UAE companies are also present at the show.
