Dubai, UAE, March 1, 2015 - Innovation in teaching and learning is one of the key drivers of academic excellence at Murdoch University Dubai.  Events like the Murdoch Strategic Marketing Plan Challenge are part of the university's ongoing efforts to provide students with exposure to real -world business situations. At this year's Challenge, graduate students at Murdoch Dubai submitted business plans for The Entertainer's ambitious new project launch in Qatar. 

The Murdoch Strategic Marketing Plan Challenge was directed by Ms Zana Azeredo, senior lecturer in Strategic Marketing and Effective Leadership at Murdoch University Dubai. This year's challenge was conducted in collaboration with The Entertainer, a Dubai based International brand that provides offers for the best restaurants, activities, attractions, spas and hotels across 40 destinations throughout the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe.  

Ms Liz Riemersma, the Marketing Director of the Entertainer stated," I found the presentations to be concise and apt; and the students managed to bring up good solid strategies in terms of pricing and online awareness.  I also liked the fact that they conducted primary research in Qatar. It is indeed a pleasure to see them take that extra mile to come up with feasible solutions." The award ceremony was attended by Mr Chris Shaw, General Manager at the Entertainer for the Middle East market.

The winning team were awarded prizes by the Entertainer group. Kevin Paul, Stephen Richards, Vivek John and Chanake Wikramanayake were awarded first place, while Amanda Gordon, Leanne Hucker and Grant King were awarded second. Muhammad Sarfaraz, Renuka Chawla, Walid El Atrache and Davis Godly secured third place. The awards recognised everything from innovation to exceptional ideas and presentation to teamwork.

The Academic Director for Murdoch University Dubai, Dan Adkins concluded saying, "In today's increasingly competitive labour market, mentoring and live case studies gives students a vital edge, as well as a clear sense of achievement and self-belief. I am delighted to be here to support the work of the students and the Entertainer."

Murdoch University Dubai has planned a series of industry focused workshops and seminars this year with an objective to enhance corporate engagement and to provide students with experience necessary to succeed in academia and industry.
