Emirates' initiative to help fight child hunger

TNT Express, the world's leading B2B express delivery company, was the main sponsor in a global event that raised over Dhs 72,000 in the UAE for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the world's largest humanitarian agency.

The money was raised through TNT's 'Fight Hunger: Walk the World' global initiative where locally, over 2,000 people, including TNT and WFP employees and Dubai residents, walked five kilometres to raise both awareness and funds to fight child hunger around the world.

"Funds generated through this world-wide campaign will help feed at least 70,000 hungry children for one year," said Mats Persson, Officer in Charge, WFP Dubai.

"This shows what impact just one organisation can have. The money raised will go directly to WFP's global school feeding programme. This initiative links together food and education by offering free school meals to some of the world's most vulnerable children", added Persson.

This year's 'Fight Hunger: Walk the World' event had the support of over 200,000 people from 266 cities, who raised over US $1.4 million and covered a total distance of more than a million kilometres or the equivalent of 25 times around the globe.

"This campaign is a clear sign that TNT is an organisation which can act both globally and locally to considerable effect, "said Mark Pell, TNT's Managing Director, Gulf and Saudi Arabia.

"This will now be an annual global event and we hope to generate twice as much support next year."
