Heritage Exhibition Provides A Unique Blend of UAE's Culture and History Exhibition Offers Chance to Win Camera
In association with Dubai Museum and the Dubai Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing (DTCM), a cultural exhibition - Timeless Dubai- has been launched by Wafi Mall. The event which runs throughout the Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS-2005) showcases Dubai's rich cultural heritage. The eight-week exhibition is open to public during the mall's working hours.
The DTCM Manager Heritage Sites, Mr. Awadh Seghayer Al Kitbi, Chairman of Dubai Cultural Council Mr. Mohammed Al Murr, CEO Dubai Summer Surprises, Mr. Saeed Al Nabooda, and Property Director Wafi Mall, Mr. Mike Davidson, inaugurated the exhibition amidst traditional singing and dancing. Guests were invited to search for pearls from live oysters using techniques reminiscent of the Pearl Diving trade.
Mr. Al Kitbi said: "Timeless Dubai will raise awareness of the culture and traditions of the area whilst providing an insight of how far Dubai has come over the last 50 years. I anticipate this to be a valuable and popular attraction for visitors."
Featuring a number of exhibits ranging from the ancient to the contemporary, Timeless Dubai provides a unique blend of education, culture and history. Enabling the public to window shop whilst viewing ancient relics or learning more about pearl diving, the event is drawing a large numbers of visitors.
The Manager of DTCM-managed Dubai Museum, Ms. Aisha Mubarak, said: "This exhibition provides visitors and residents the opportunity to learn about the rapid growth and culture of the UAE." A rich and varied program of activities is underway as part of the exhibition.
Archaeological exploration of the region is being featured with priceless original pottery from the 1st-3rd Millennium BC which is on display. A rare collection of Emirati weapons including Khanjars, swords and guns illustrate the traditional Emirati way of defence.
A heritage section observes the traditions and daily rituals of the Bedouin, describing the essential role water and date palms played in the survival of this populace. For those interested in traditional skills, Emirati craftspeople provide live, daily demonstrations of perfume making, basket weaving and henna from 4pm-10 pm. A marine exhibition designed with the help of the Emirates Diving Association, creates an atmospheric walk-through underwater scene.
Visitors can learn about the varied marine life in the region via a film and explore the rare and beautiful pearl and seashell collections. Traditional boats and tools used by pearl divers and fishermen are also featured, providing a real account of how people existed in past times.
A unique and rare photography collection of over 100 posters has been placed throughout the walkways of the mall marking Dubai's evolution over recent decades. In line with this theme, a public photography competition in association with Salam titled "Old Dubai, New Dubai' invites people to submit their own masterpiece, capturing a scene from Dubai and providing a chance to win a Pentax camera.
