Emirates Thermostone, a wholly owned subsidiary of M'sharie, the private equity arm of Dubai Investments, has announced that it has recently been awarded contracts with a total value of AED 12.3 million to supply Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) construction materials to three premier developments in Dubai.  They are the latest in a string of contracts for the company, following the launch of a second production line for the groundbreaking AAC technology in April 2007.

Emirates Thermostone will provide a combined 48,000 cubic meters of AAC blocks to The Lake Shore Tower 1 at the Jumeirah Lakes, as well as a cluster of 29 buildings at Dubai International City Phase 1, and the Marina Apartments on the Palm Jumeirah.

"It has been a little more than a year since Emirates Thermostone rolled out its initial production and yet we have attracted some of the biggest names of the industry in such a short time. That these elite projects have chosen to utilize AAC materials is a strong indication of the technology's great popularity in the UAE's construction industry. The AAC's biggest draw among developers is the tremendous value the technology adds to any project, particularly in terms of safety, cost-efficiency and practicability - all key considerations in any development," said Khalil Abdul Baki, Marketing Director, Emirates Thermostone.

"The high-performance combination of silica, sand, lime, cement, gypsum and water mixed with the expansive agent, enhances the construction properties of the material, vastly improving its structural strength, optimizing lightness and boosting fire resistance. Other popular features include its ability to resist termites, the absence of pollutants and its enhanced thermal insulation properties, which help reduce power consumption particularly in warm climates such as in the Middle East," added Mr. Baki.

The Lake Shore Tower 1 will be a 44-floor development whose main contractor is Pivot Engineering, a leading contracting company from Abu Dhabi. The project will require 11,000 cubic meters of AAC blocks and work is expected to be completed in February 2008. The Dubai International City towers, whose main contractor is Ghantoot Gulf Contracting, are scheduled for completion in March 2008 and will require 15,000 cubic meters of ACC blocks.

Working in tandem with main contractor Shimizu Corporation, Emirates Thermostone will provide 22,000 cubic meters of AAC blocks to The Palm Jumeirah Marina Apartments, which are set to be completed in April 2008. Emirates Thermostone has earlier secured the approval of Dar Al Handasah, one of the most prestigious consulting companies in the industry, to provide the project with AAC blocks, instead of sandwich blocks.

AAC is a precast building stone made from natural raw materials. Its economical, environmentally friendly and lightweight characteristics have sealed its international reputation as a preferred construction material for residential, commercial and industrial buildings.

Emirates Thermostone operates one of the largest and most technologically advanced AAC production plants in the Middle East, providing the region's premier developments with an annual supply of up to 15 million specially designed blocks, slabs and panels.
