The Rail Agency of the Roads and Transport Authority had adopted the Moving Block Automatic Train Control system (ATC) for the Dubai Metro. The manufacturing of which is well on schedule. Currently, the ATC system is in its final design stages and different internal databases were designed and populated with the latest configuration data.

Adnan Al Hammadi, Director of Construction, Rail Agency said, "Software components for the different subsystems (related to wayside, onboard and control room equipment) are in progress for both design and implementation. A set of FAT tests (Factory acceptance Testing) were carried out successfully (namely Switch machines and some Wayside and onboard equipment) while the procurement and manufacturing is underway."

The Automated Driverless System is completely safe and reliable. Safe separation behind the preceding train is dynamically calculated based on the maximum operating speeds, braking curves and locations of the trains on the guide way. Because of the high resolution of position, a following train may safely approach to a safe braking distance from the last verified position of the rear of a preceding train, based on the maximum allowed speed in that section of the guideway. During operation, the ATC system will be continuously interfacing with many different systems namely: the Rolling Stock, the Power Supply, the Platform Screen Doors, the Operation Control Systems, etc....

"The first set of onboard equipment is already shipped to prepare for the Mihara Test. This will be the first ATC site test carried out on the first manufactured trains. The test is scheduled to start in November 2007 in Mihara Test Track (Japan). The Test track will be used to carry out the Post Installation Check Out and Integration tests of the ATC train borne equipment and the Rolling Stock. ", he added.
