The Jam Jar has announced the launch of their new project, Art in the City, introducing two new concepts to Dubai - the Art Bus and the Art Map.
The Art Bus is a convoy of dedicated vehicles that will link key event venues and prominent art galleries in the city, while the Art Map will locate and describe the places of interest. Together, Art in the City will serve as a significant addition to Dubai's burgeoning event calendar as it marks its debut during the week of the DIFC Gulf Art Fair, Creek Art Fair and the Dubai International Jazz Festival, from March 6 to 10, 2007.
Hetal Pawani, Director of The Jam Jar described the concept of the Art Bus as a novel, enchanting and convenient way to take in the sights and sounds of Dubai while creating an action-packed week dedicated to art. "We have organised a fleet of luxury vehicles that will run on pre-set routes and as per a scheduled timetable. Resident art lovers and visitors can take in the numerous art galleries around the city, visit the two art fair venues, and then top it all off by attending the jazz festival.
"We have had two motives in developing this concept - to make a meaningful contribution to Dubai's vibrant and burgeoning cultural palette, and in offering residents
and visitors an unprecedented treat," she explained. Pawani said that people wishing to travel to and from the numerous venues on the route would save themselves the hassles involved in overcoming traffic, finding parking and adhering to a schedule - for a nominal fee. During the ride they can also have a little fun learning from the Art Guides as they take the opportunity to inform passengers, about planned destinations on the route.
The Art Bus will ply between event venues - Creek Contemporary Art Fair at Bastakiya and the DIFC Gulf Art Fair at the Madinat Jumeirah - and the major art galleries in Dubai.
The routes will take in Sheikh Zayed Road, Jumeirah Beach Road, Al Wasl Road, Al Barsha, Al Quoz, and Bur Dubai, and the hop in - hop off service will ply between the hours of 10.00 am and 10.00pm, at approximately 30 minute intervals.
Additional perks include the unique Art Map describing various places of interest en route and in other neighbourhoods, a team of friendly tour guides, and a calendar of events - all available on board the vehicles. Pawani says that people availing of the service can learn a lot about art in Dubai, simply by boarding the Art Bus.
"The Art Bus is not merely restricted to art aficionados. Just about anyone - college students, art teachers, visitors or other interested individuals can board the tour, for an initiation and first-hand experience of art in Dubai. Our guides are friendly and trained, and will provide pertinent information to give passengers an appetite, before they reach their destination," she stated.
Complete information on bus schedules, pricing and location of ticket booths will be available soon on www.artinthecitydubai.com.
The Art Bus is sponsored by Alico AIG Gulf (Abraham Agency), promoting its Life, Personal Accident and Critical Care policies.
