Energy Efficient Event April 2010 to highlight new environmentally friendly label and standard scheme.
Dubai, 07 April 2010: The Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology is launching a new energy efficiency label and standard scheme. Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Rashid Ahmad Bin Fahad, UAE Minister of Environment and Water and Chairman of ESMA, Energy Efficient 2010 will introduce and discuss the details of this new initiative.
H.E. Dr. Rashid Ahmad Bin Fahad, UAE Minister of Environment and water, Chairman of ESMA said, "This event is a critical and exciting first step in educating, manufacturers, distributors and resellers on best practices in energy efficient technology. By ensuring the principals are fully aware of the standards, we are ensuring consumers are properly educated and informed on what they are buying". H.E. Dr. Rashid added, "The support and demand of the market and consumer is the key to bringing about successful change in sustainable energy efficiency. This action is in-line with the UAE government movement to reduce the energy usage throughout the country"
Supported by the UAE Ministry of Energy, the International Copper Association (ICA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Energy Efficient 2010 event will announce the new required government qualification and will inform the key stakeholders on the best way to learn about the new legislation and technical expectations. Energy Efficient 2010 will host speakers and representatives from various countries including the USA, Australia and the UAE. The event will attract local and regional manufacturers of air-conditioning units, electrical appliances and entertainment equipment, as well as senior government officials and representatives from Academia who are also expected to attend.
Essentially the new certification that is to be placed on electronic goods (and, in particular, air-conditioning units) is a standard set that, although derived from an international standards template, has been specifically designed for the United Arab Emirates market.
H.E. Eng Mohamed Badri, Acting Director General-ESMA said, "Creating a new Energy Efficient certification specifically for the UAE makes it especially relevant and functional for our local market. Although an international template was used, it was extremely important for us to ensure a set UAE standard was created that was closely aligned to our specific environmental factors."
He added, "Given the overall consumption of electricity throughout the country, particularly through usage of air-conditioning units, our new label and standard scheme will be a driver of the introduction of technology that reduces the environmental impact of such electrical usage, leading to an overall energy saving and, ultimately, facilitating long term valuable monetary savings for the UAE consumer."
The new certification comes into effect by the end of 2010 with the announcement event scheduled for Wednesday April 14th at the Habtoor Grand Hotel. For more information and to register for the event, please visit www.energyefficientuae.com.
