Suzuki SX4 i-AWD is powered by a 2000 cc VVT (Variable Valve Timing) petrol engine generating 165 horsepower. The VVT petrol engine also features drive by wire throttle control for great response and a comfortable drive.
SX4 i-AWD is equipped with 4WD-Auto, 4WD-Lock and 2WD modes which can accessed with a flick of switch according to the driving conditions. The three driving modes provide an excellent traction and safe drive on all terrains. 4WD-Auto mode is suited for safe driving on rough roads and rainy conditions. In this mode, there is no torque transfer to the rear and vehicle operates as a front-wheel drive vehicle till the time there is pronounced front wheel slip. At this point, torque is automatically apportioned to the rear wheels to produce all-wheel traction, enhancing stability. The 4WD-Lock mode for traction in muddy and sandy conditions provides constant torque to both axles up to around 40 mph for full traction before automatically switching over to the 4WD-Auto mode for smooth cruising. The 2WD mode transmits power primarily to the front wheels for a quiet drive with excellent fuel economy on the tarmac. All this with class leading ground clearance of 165 mm makes this vehicle and great drive on all terrains.
The suspension system has high levels of bending and torsional rigidity. This along with wide tyres helps the vehicle to have better handling and helps the passengers to be comfortable over long journeys. The efficient dimensions and a minimum turning radius of 5.3 metres help drivers to negotiate narrow urban streets with relative ease and park in spots too small for bigger SUVs.
The standards features include keyless entry, 16" alloy wheels, fog lamps and a music system compatible with mp3 and also equipped with an auxiliary input.
The rear seats are split 60:40 for stowage of long items while still seating one or two rear passengers. They can be tumbled forward to create an almost fully flat load floor. Boot capacity is 270 litres (VDA), which increases to 625 litres (VDA) when the rear seats are folded.
Passive safety features start with high driving position and a reinforced body that provides class-leading levels of protection. Front and rear crush zones absorb impact energy while the frame design directs much of the impact energy. Other standard safety features include a front airbag system and front 3-point seat belts with pretensioners and force-limiters, side and curtain airbags, 3-point ELR (Emergency Locking Retractor) rear seatbelts, ISO FIX-compliant child seat anchors and a high-mount stop lamp.
Active safety features include ventilated front discs and leading-and-trailing rear drums actuated by a 10-inch booster that provide sure stopping power .The braking system supports an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), that is standard on all models.
