Al-Khobar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: Recently concluded SunGard Higher Education Middle East User Group (SMEUG) Conference 2010 on "Enabling Student Success: The New Knowledge Economy" held in Dubai last December offered new direction for technology use in the higher education institutions. Its participants included corporate bigwigs and academicians from more than 25 countries. Alaa Sami Al Abed Alabdrabbuh, a student of B.Sc in Electrical Engineering at Prince Mohammad bin Fahd University (PMU) too was one of the key speakers as Student Speaker who shared dice with the business magnates and academicians.
Alabdrabbuh focused on setting goals and its importance to reach at advanced level of scientific temper in students. His message to the fellow students was developing self-confidence for constant growth. Assessment of Arab and Muslim world, guiding youths for exposure into information technology in advanced education which SunGard offers were the main focal points.
Such conferences are of great value that inspires for scientific, technical, cultural and social milieu. Participating educationalists lauded PMU for its mission to use technology in grooming young minds. Abed Rabbo's eagerness to explore new technology indicated distinct feature of PMU mission in sharpening budding talents.
Need for effective solution with good technology use was the main concentration of this three-day conference. Speakers had strong message for the new generation of Middle East to face new challenges in their urge to attain higher education. Experts from various regions of the world discussed new "early intervention solution" which is especially implemented in the Middle East. SunGard Higher Education developed a system of Course Signals which judges risks in students whether failing or withdrawing from courses even while in their second week of joining semesters.
