• Astronomical Sales promotion with Noon to offer discounts of up to 97% on December 26
  • Mastercard offers UAE shoppers Priceless surprises during ‘Ring of Fire’ Solar Eclipse

In its never-ending pursuit of engaging with consumers in new and innovative ways, Mastercard will become the first brand in history to have its logo recreated by the sun and moon. On December 26, 2019, the UAE will experience its first annular solar eclipse in 172 years, known as the ‘Ring of Fire’, and the moon will pass in front of the sun to recreate the iconic Mastercard logo among the stars.

In celebration of this Priceless moment, Mastercard has collaborated with local retail giant, Noon, to offer up to 97% discount on some of the online portal’s most popular products through its Astronomical Sales campaign. Through its unique and innovative take on the shopping experience, Mastercard will offer cardholders incremental discounts as the moon passes in front of the sun to create the Mastercard symbol. Prices on Noon will drop as the sun disappears behind the moon, meaning that shoppers will pay less for their favorite items as the sun becomes obscured.

Since the eclipse will cover 97% of the sun, Mastercard cardholders will, in turn, receive discounts of up to 97% for the brief window of near-total coverage. Once the sun starts revealing itself again, prices will increase until the eclipse, and the sale, are over.

Commenting on the event, Mustapha Kassem, Vice President, Marketing and Communications, Middle East and North Africa, Mastercard said: “On the once-in-a-lifetime occasion of the ‘Ring of Fire’ solar eclipse, Mastercard’s iconic interlocking circles will appear among the stars in what will be a unique milestone in the history of our brand. The Astronomical Sales campaign is an extraordinary opportunity to tap into the passions of UAE shoppers and astronomy-lovers, presenting them with an unmissable chance to make the most of this exciting event. We are excited to boldly take Mastercard where no brand has gone before!”

Shoppers will only be able to take advantage of the sale during a two-and-a-half hour window starting from 6.30 AM, making the sale all the more thrilling and the eclipse all the more exciting. In addition to the discounts, two lucky shoppers will be rewarded with a Priceless experience when purchasing at the two moments when the eclipse exactly mirrors the Mastercard logo.
