Prefabrication and Modular Summit 2016 welcomed experts from USD209 billion industry sector
Dubai, 25th of February, 2016: The Middle East Prefabrication and Modular Construction Summit (MEPMCS) 2016 concluded last week (16-17 February), with Sharjah Research Academy, leading stakeholders, thought leaders and subject experts hailing the UAE as the regional leader in this industry segment.
With the region's precast and prefabrication construction industry slated to reach USD209 billion by 2020, and at a projected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.5 per cent, the industry remains in robust health. Experts at the summit did stress, however, that the region can and should do more to meet the ever-improving standards set in international markets.
Supported by Sharjah Research Academy, Dubai Municipality, Fujairah Municipality, and the UAE Contractors Association, the summit was organised by Information Exchange Group (IXG), with a number of experts and industry professionals in attendance.
In his opening remarks, Professor Mufid Samarai, Senior Advisor at the Sharjah Research Academy, an office of the Government of Sharjah, emphasised that modular design and prefabrication is increasingly seen as a tool towards achieving sustainability in the industry.
He stated: "While the UAE is currently a regional leader in prefabrication and modular construction, what we have learnt from this summit [MEPMCS 2016] is that the sector has an increasingly important role in developing key trends in the future development of construction projects. Therefore, continued success - and UAE dominance - in this field can only be achieved by looking to the introduction of more innovation and technologies, in order to maintain that position."
Over the two days of the summit, attendees engaged in interactive panel discussions, one-to-one business meetings, roundtable discussions and presentations on the business opportunities between project developers and material and service providers. New technologies and emerging market trends were also key themes for debate.
MEPMCS 2016 brought together leading industry experts from organisations like Dubai Municipality, DuBox, Arab Engineering Bureau, ADNOC, National Engineering Bureau, DAMAC Properties, Speed House Group, Petrofac, RAK Properties, Al Futtaim Group - Real Estate, and RAK Municipality.
