Thousands throng to HCT Khalifa City Women's College Campus

Abu Dhabi, UAE: 30 December 2012.  Students of the Gulf Indian High School Dubai, Asian International Private School Ruwais and Abu Dhabi Indian School were the big winners at the Annual Students Educational Exhibition organized by the Innovative Development Centre for Educational Aptitude (IDEA), recently held in Abu Dhabi.

The three schools bagged the winners' awards in the respective categories of Best Innovative Theme, Best Exhibition and Best Presentation at the Exhibition held at the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT)'s Khalifa City Women's College campus.

The winners' awards were presented by the Exhibition's chief guest, H.E. Mr. M. K. Lokesh, Ambassador of India to the UAE and the guest of honor, Mr. Sultan Karmostaji, Associate Provost of the Higher Colleges of Technology, at a glittering award presentation ceremony held at the campus on the concluding day.

The students' exhibition, held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, attracted over 1,000 students from schools across the UAE.

The project entitled Pentagon, presented by Raj Nair Krishnan, Prasanth Sreekumaran and Farhaan Feroz of Gulf Indian High School, was judged to be the Best Innovative Theme Project.  Magnetic Levitation of a Train, presented by Kashif Changez, Anantha Padmanabhan Nair and Arpith Rao of Asian International School Ruwais, was judged to be the Best Informative Exhibition.  Sun does not Bill us, presented by Roopa Rachel Thomas, Meghna Pramod and Varnica Bajaj of Abu Dhabi Indian School, was judged to be the Best Presentation.

"I applaud the initiatives of IDEA to present this unique opportunity for the youth to assemble on a common platform to explore and display their innovation, talents and creativity in science and technology", said H.E. Mr. M. K. Lokesh while addressing students at the Award Presentation. "I congratulate the students who have taken on the challenge offered by this opportunity and participated in the exhibition", the Ambassador added.

Students of Grades 7-12 in 350 teams, representing 32 schools and 15 nationalities from Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Dubai and Sharjah took part in this two-day annual expo organized by IDEA in association with the Centre of Excellence for Applied Research and Training (CERT). The HCT campus was filled with well-researched innovative educational projects presented with much enthusiasm, creativity and vigor by the budding talents who represent the next generation scientists, engineers, doctors, businessmen, leaders and technocrats.

The amazing prowess of the students was on display when the young intellectual minds gathered and presented their science and technology based projects ranging from Robotics, Remote Home Safety System, Designing a Mathematical City, Nuclear Energy, Renewable Energy Commercialization, Sustainable Buildings, Global Warming, Earth Quake, Optical Illusions, Face Detection System, Carbon Capture and Storage, Second World, Animal and Plant Diversity, Wind Turbine to Aerodynamics and Hydrodynamics.

The second and third position awards, two consolation prizes and Jury Awards in the categories of Innovation, Information and Presentation were won respectively by students of the Gulf Indian High School Dubai; Abu Dhabi Indian School; Indian Islahi Islamic School, Abu Dhabi; Al Ain Juniors School, Al Ain; Our Own English High School, Abu Dhabi; Asian International Private School, Ruwais; Our Own Indian School Dubai; Our Own English High School, Al Ain; St. Joseph's High School, Abu Dhabi; Sunrise English Private School, Abu Dhabi; Al Noor Indian Islamic School, Abu Dhabi; Glenelg School of Abu Dhabi; and Emirates Future International Academy, Abu Dhabi.

"Witnessing these amazing talent potential in the students, it gives us confidence that we will have a greater number of scientists, technocrats, doctors and professionals than at present to form the next generation,"  said Mr. Sultan Karmostaji, HCT Associate Provost, who was the guest of honor at the awards function. "Participation is more important than winning", Mr. Karmostaji advised the students.

Abu Dhabi Indian School secured the award for the highest number of participants, Our Own English High School for the second highest number of participants and Emirates Future International Academy for the third highest number of participants.  Our Own English High School Al Ain and Al Ain Juniors School received Awards for maximum number of participants.
