A total of twenty-five Omani students from north Oman today graduated from a vocational training course at a special ceremony held in Ibri under the auspices of His Excellency Hamad bin Khamis Al-Amry, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Manpower for Technical Education and Vocational Training, and attended by some officials from Petroleum Development Oman (PDO).
The course known as 'Training for Employment' was sponsored and funded by PDO under the terms of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the Ministry of Manpower (MoM) in February 2008 under which students would undergo vocational training at MoM-approved training centres.
PDO's Oil North Director Saif Al-Hinai commented that: "The graduation ceremony today reflects the intimate relationship that exists between the Company and the local communities, which goes back more than four decades",
The 'Training for Employment' programme is aimed at supporting young people in PDO's concession area who have completed their secondary schooling and require training in professional skills to enable them to enter the job market. All the graduates from the scheme have found jobs in three companies active in the Sultanate's oil and gas industry namely; Dodsal Engineering & Construction LLC, Gulf Petrochemical Services & Trading LLC and Special Technical Services LLC.
Abdul Amir Al-Ajmi PDO's External Affairs and Communications added that "We favour investment in training, for it is only through training that young Omanis can be qualified to take up responsibility in developing their country."

About PDO's
This year, PDO's Gas Directorate celebrates 30 years of uninterrupted supplies of natural gas to clients in the Sultanate of Oman. On 29 October 1978, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos opened the Yibal gas plant, paving the way for the supply of gas to the Muscat area. PDO currently supplies gas to customers in Muscat, Sohar, Sur and Dhofar.

It accounts for about 80% of the country's crude-oil production and nearly all of its natural-gas supply. The Company is owned by the Government of Oman (which has a 60% interest), the Shell Group (which has a 34% interest), Total (which has a 4% interest) and Partex (which has a 2% interest).
