Winner to receive an internship in London's RPW Design, one of the world's leading interior design practices specialising in the luxury hospitality and leisure industry.
Abu Dhabi, UAE; 29 March 2011 - College and university students from across the UAE will have the opportunity to showcase their talent and creativity as they compete for top honours at the Interiors UAE 2011 Student Design competition, a highly competitive design contest sponsored by the Association of Professional Interior Designers (APID), Arabesque and Inchbald School of Design, all esteemed institutions in the interior design industry.
Students from prestigious colleges and universities in the UAE are expected to submit their application to the annual design challenge, one of the highlights of the design-led Interiors UAE 2011 exhibition, which will be held on May 9 to 11 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
The winner will be given the distinct opportunity to showcase his/her winning work at the exhibition, raising their profile among top designers, architects, and other interior design stakeholders from all over the world. In addition to having the distinction of being declared the competition's best, the winning student will also be given a six-month high profile, industry based internship. Last year's competition winner was awarded an impressive internship with RPW Design, one of the world's leading interior design practices specialising in the luxury hospitality and leisure industry.
Students will be asked to provide a concept for the ground floor of a mixed use building featuring permanent residences and a hotel. "They will be asked to develop a concept for the central arrival area at the ground floor, for both long term and short stay clients," explained Tony Crinion, Event Director, UBM Built Environment, organisers of Abu Dhabi's only interior design show. "This design will test the student's creativity and ingenuity as it requires two distinct areas that clearly indicate PRIVATE and PUBLIC, long stay and temporary."
Students must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university in the UAE to be eligible, and they will be required to submit a written and illustrated explanation of their concept. Deadline for submission of entries is on 18th April 2011.
Crinion believes that the student design competition is an important platform to discover emerging talent in the UAE, which has a rapidly advancing interior design industry. "Through this competition and the seminar workshops that we will be running during the exhibition, we hope to provide interior design students with the training and exposure to global trends and best practices to help them excel in the industry," he added.
Interiors UAE 2011 is the only interiors trade event held in Abu Dhabi, offering an exclusive fusion of modern and traditional influences through a unique gathering of international and regional, design led interiors products and industry leaders.
It offers educational and inspirational content through various seminars featuring industry trend forecasts and best practices. A student design challenge is also being conducted annually to discover the region's next generation of interior designers.
