UAE, Dubai, November 10, 2008: Star Cement Co LLC, a leading player in manufacturing and trading cement in the Middle East will invest USD 200million in a high-tech clinkerisation manufacturing unit in Ras Al Khaimah. Built to produce clinker at 6,500 tonnes per day, the facility is based in an area spread over 404286 sqmt. and is part of the Dubai based US$ 5.69billion conglomerate ETA Ascon Star Group.
Estimated to complete by February 2009, the energy efficient and environment friendly plant has the capacity to produce 2.2million MT of clinker per annum. A boon to Star Cement's UAE operations, it will supply the much needed clinker for their cement grinding plants operating in Abu Dhabi and Ajman. Star Cement will have their own clinkerization facility which will further reduce their dependency on imports which is the source of clinker at present.
Ahmed Salahuddin, Director, Star Cement said, "Our plan is to cater to an increasing demand for cement in the UAE in line with the ongoing construction boom. The existing capacity of 3.2milo MT per annum caters to 18 per cent of the demand of cement in the UAE. It will further reduce our dependency on imports of clinker especially while the markets are volatile."
This state-of-the-art plant meets the highest environmental standards and is in line with the UAE's commitment towards sustainable development.
This has been achieved by using the best available technologies during various stages of manufacturing. The environmental control measures include use of high efficiency membrane bag houses, with dust filtration efficiency confirming to Euro Norms. Air Cooled Systems have been adapted which helps in reducing the consumption of water to the bare minimum and setting a new benchmark for this region. All the utilities and services have been optimally tailored to serve the main plant requirement.
Located close to the RAK Airport, the construction of Star Cement's new manufacturing unit at Ras Al Khaimah has been given to three major contractors. The Raw Mill is supplied by M/s. Loesche, Germany in association with M/s. Loesche India (a technology leader in the grinding mill with a track record of 100years). The 6 Roller grinding mill is the one of the biggest mills in this region that will be installed by them. The Pyro system is supplied by FLSmidth, Denmark in association with FLS India. The Pyro system has 6 Stage, twin string Preheater and In Line Calciner and 3rd generation SF Clinker Cooler system.
