SPE organised Production and Operations Conference and Exhibition (POCE) is scheduled to take place 14−16 May 2012 in Doha, Qatar. The International Call for Papers conducted to determine the technical agenda for the conference saw a submission of 398 paper proposals from 42 countries represented by 142 organisations. China, India, Iran, Qatar, United States of America, Australia, and Saudi Arabia spearheaded the submission of papers. 171 papers have been selected by the programme committee.
POCE will be held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Mohammed Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, Qatar with Said Mubarak Al-Mohannadi, Director of Operations, Qatar Petroleum as Conference Chairman. The SPE International POCE is expected to attract approximately 1,200 regional and international delegates through its comprehensive technical programme dedicated to production and operations. The event also offers 2,000 sq. metres, designed to host the most reputed organisations in the oil and gas industry worldwide.
Waleed Refaay, Managing Director, SPE Middle East, North Africa, and India said, "Building on the success of the inaugural SPE International POCE, held in Tunisia in 2010, it is envisioned that the second edition in Qatar, will provide an opportune platform for showcasing advanced proven technologies, highlight future and emerging methods and concepts in operating oil and natural gas reservoirs, as well as further enhancing Qatar's status as one of the leaders in the global oil and gas industry".
The conference will feature multi-steamed conference sessions, poster sessions, and panel sessions. Panel session topics will range from Carbon Management: Problem or Opportunity to Human Capital Development discussing core issues of knowledge transfer to the younger generation whilst maintaining performance and competency management. The programme committee responsible for the technical direction of the conference is well represented from the oil and gas sector with representatives from Maersk Oil Qatar, Qatar Petroleum, Saudi Aramco, Shell, and Turkish Petroleum Corporation.
